Driving Miss Daisy Reflection

A summary of Driving With Miss Daisy. Driving Miss Daisy is a movie about an evolving relationship between an elderly Jewish woman, Daisy Werthan, and her African-American driver Hoke Colburn in the American South. Set with racial tensions the film depicts the growth of their bond into a strong friendship. Through performances by Jessica Tandy and Morgan Freeman, the movie addresses themes of friendship, and societal change emphasizing the power of understanding one's culture. This serves as a reminder of the impact of human connections that transcend societal norms illustrating the beauty of compassion and shared experiences.

My reflection on Driving Miss Daisy was that black people were given more jobs and opportunities in the given period of time. They are still house servants but they are to be paid. Daisy also shows more respect to her house servant due to her being in her life for a long time. In the show, They have shown that black people are somewhat respected. In the movie Daisy has built up respect towards black people and not just the black woman she's known since she was a kid. She also becomes less embarrassed being out in public with her driver. The car can be seen as a metaphor for the journey of Daisy's life and the changes in society for it has different friendships, understanding of her son, and the personal interactions and shared experiences with her driver. The movie is a slow transformation of Daisy and the driver's contentious relationship into a bond that would transcend racial and societal boundaries. Daisy and the driver went against the racial tensions and made social changes, the film addresses issues of racism and ageism. The story unfolds over decades, allowing viewers to witness a huge shift in the perspectives of the characters and the development of respect and affection between Daisy and the driver.
