Negative Side
The Birth Of a Nation was the first blockbuster film that portrays the Civil War, KKK, and African Americans. In this movie, black people are portrayed as savages and lusting people, and the KKK is portrayed as heroic. The movie has revived the KKK for a short time and is still talked about today. The second KKK was formed in 1915 and was reborn as a more united group and the main goal was to exclude Jews, Catholics, and most Europeans. The KKK’s belief is natives. Sundown Towns were towns that allowed people into their town but if were not white they had to leave by sundown these towns were mostly found in the Midwest. Four Little Girls is about the bombing of a black church due to white supremacy. White supremacy saw the church becoming more of a civil rights symbol which led to them being bombed. Since the bombing happened it created violent protests and damaged the U.S.’s reputation. Emmett Till was an African American boy who lost his life being accused of offending a white woman in the grocery store. Mississippi Burning was about how on June 24th, 1964 the KKK was going after a white person organizing Civil Rights meetings and when the white person left with three people the KKK followed them and killed them but wasn’t arrested till 40 years later brought up in court he was sentenced to 60years in jail were he died.
Positive Side
Great Migration 1960-1970 which played a good role in helping black Americans during this era. Black people were given higher wages, jobs, more and higher education, and escaped racial suppression. Integration of the armed forces which ends racial segregation in the U.S. armed forces. This was influenced by Woodwork being brutally attacked by white police officers while he was still in military uniform. During the Korean War, the military numbers increased and stayed that way after creating higher numbers and a stronger military. This helped break down racial barriers. Jackie Robinson helped break the racial barrier in sports. Harlem Renaissance was a period of creative art from black people that helped play a major role in racial awareness. The Harlem Renaissance also brought people from other races over to exchange racial ideas. NAACP was founded by black people and was to help advance black people. The NAACP helped make a change from the 1920s to the 1950s. The United Negro College Fund was founded by Dr. Fredrick D. Patterson. They wanted to help black people be able to attend college.
